Hello,

What an excellent resource! My question concerns some work that I had done recently. I wanted to beef up my springs on a 92 pickup. I asked for 1500 pound overload springs. What I wound up paying 350 bucks for is what I believe to be the wrong item. The springs installed are only behind the axle rather than in front and behind. They look like the Heliwig 550 springs rather than the 815 or 1515. Can anyone verify that 1500 pound overload springs for a pickup like this should be more substantial? The truck still handles like a car and is not nearly stiff enough for my towing needs.

Cheers, Adair

Found an answer to my own question:

The installer was misrepresenting the springs. According to Hellwig there should be springs in front and behind the axle, otherwise there is no way to get a 1500 pound capacity. For a 92 pickup one should use the 1515t overloads. I ordered them myself and put them on in under two hours. They stiffened the rear end up considerably and it is a blessing not to invert my springs as I had been doing under load.

Cheers, Adair
