Hi.
I'm a recent Prius owner, from Brisbane Australia fed up with paying the high price of diesel here just got rid of a Citroen C4 Picasso, too thirsty. We have only 2 choices of the Prius here, the standard or the Hi-Tech. I have the standard model ,don't how it compares with model eslwhere, no Sat -nav reverse camera, stability control, side air-bags. Has anybody had fitted aftermarket reverse sensors or camera to their car?
I would be interesed to know. Am delighted with the car using almost half the gas I was using before.

Hi trombone. I'm new to this forum, though I've owned a Prius in Sydney for two years and would not change it. In fact, I bought it from the company for which I worked when I retired and it was money very well spent.
I had reverse sensors fitted to it when new. The Prius is a dream to park without them - no appreciable overhang and with the lower rear window - but the sensors give confidence in especially tight spaces.
Like most owners, I was initially annoyed at having to put up with two bleepers going off when I chose reverse, but you get used to the different sounds.
I don't know what system the Toyota dealer fitted, but two years ago it cost around AUD350, with four sensors, connected to the reversing lights and a tiny cylindrical speaker mounted in the cargo area.
The reason I've found this forum is it has just started making a strange 'warbling' sound (very fast beeping)for about two seconds whenever I select reverse, then it operates normally.
Does anyone have an idea what this can mean?
I've checked and cleaned the outside of the sensors, to no avail.

Parking Sensors gives safety to your vehicles and keeps your vehicle in excellent condition. This has been mainly designed for SUV's, trucks, vans. The poor rear visibility of many cars, SUVs and other large vehicles increases the risk of hitting obstacles like small object, or even people when driving in reverse. With backup sensors installed, drivers can lower the risk of collision when backing up or parallel parking. So Using could bring safety to your car.
