Hi there,
The van runs perfectly well for 45 minutes but then will not idle - just stalls. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)
I have tried to find the idle adjustment screw and now realise how complicated this carburetor is and the fact that one has to a contortionist to even view all parts of the carburetor. Mirrors and a torch help quite a bit.
Any clues on adjusting mix and idle will be greatly appreciated. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/liebe011.gif)

Some more precise questions:
-Does the engine run after that 45 min if you don't let it idle?
-If you let it cool down does it idle then?
-Does the engine still start?

With the knowledge I've never faced petrol Hiace but anyway other cars, I'd guess problem with parts that react the engine coolant temperature and adjust fuel flow on idle. And of course in the case that it works perfect when engine cold.

Hi Rns,
Thanks for your advice about checking the coolant temperature affecting the fuel flow on idle. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/liebe011.gif)
Is there a sensor attached to the carburetor that is governed by the coolant temperature?
In answer to your questions :-
- the engine continues to run all the time when driven beyond the 45 minutes but feels rough
- the engine runs fine again for 45 minutes after it has been allowed to cool down
- the engine will always restart even when it is hot and will not idle
Kind regards,Vince

So if there is, and I think there should be, you may locate it with checking (usually rubber) pipes going in and out from the water pump area to the carburetor. There are piece of metal, spring etc. that react by its size to the temperature and adjusts idle.

Feels rough? Does it shake on idle a lot?
I had a diesel one which did a heavy shaking and extra noises. That time the reason was a ruined crankshaft bearing... Hopefully not your problem.

Now someone more wise perhaps will give you more tips. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/gitara.gif)

Thanks Rns for the extra clues.I will check them out.
I'm also starting to wonder if it might be a similar carburetor problem I had on Kombi van I owned many moons ago where it had cracked carburetor gaskets and a worn butterfly axle shaft.
This van has 18 years on it now so I will look at those features too.
Once again many thanks for your quick replies. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/s12.gif)
