No offense meant, but make sure your plug wires are snapped on all the way. Also, if this has a distributor cap, make sure you didn't crack it when snapping the wires on it.

All I know is my GTR was fitted with TEMS, 4WS and electric sunroof + aircon, the sunroof is supposed to be pretty rare, I think all GTR's have 4ws and the TEMS SYSTEM WAS A LAZYBOY UPGRADE...as u all know I dumped mine in favour of the kyb gas shox all round...I know the TEMS system was originally automatic un like the later cars which have the switch, I'm not 100% on the GTR standard spec Cheers Fergal

You know the switch we had on the centre console to switch from soft-medium at "idle", some of the early cars dont have this, the system is completely at the mercy of the car
Huh? originally automatic? unlike later cars with a switch? They all have a switch (AFAIK), the switch just sets the "idle" state to either Soft or Medium. They all respond automatically to cornering / braking, and, in Al's case, accelerating.

Ooooo owwww jeeez.... is my outlook (bleuch!) posting html messages?? Anyone else got problems with my postings? (step outside now please...)

Is there any chance someone's replaced the panel around the gear stick and not been able to get a switch? If the wiring TO the switch is there then will bridging the right contacts put it into "sport" mode? These cars are old enough now to have been hacked by previous owners (e.g. Al's Half-TEMS). I wouldn't have thought TEMS was a retrofittable option considering it requires a TEMS ECU & Different instrument panel.

May be a dumb question but you're shocks definitely are TEMS aren't they? It's not just a TEMS instrument panel?

Jem

The stereo went in and it wasn't powerful enough to power all the speakers, mainly the two bigguns in the doors so I had to get an amp to power the speakers. The original amp just wouldn't work with the new head unit no matter what we tried but all 12 speakers are running at full power with the new amp and head unit. The guy who fitted it was good with the wiring but I had to refit the head unit and the amp properly afterwards. The roof has yet to be resprayed, I have gotten quotes from ?250 to ?700 for respraying the roof. Believe it or not but the cheapest quote was from a Toyota dealer. Most quotes are in the region of ?400. It is just a matter of being able to justify the money for a cosmetic problem with the car. But I will probably get it done soon as I have just gotten made redundant and I will be going back to college and I will be flat broke for the next few years. And I won't be able to change the car, so I want to fix it while I have the money.

My shocks are TEMS, they have a wire coming out the top of them which I didn't know what it was for until I joined the list. Toyota usually puts all the wiring in for extras so that the garage can fit them if the option was taken. I don't know if the panel around the gear stick was replaced or the button just broke but the hole was there for the button when I bought the car which I had to cut a piece of plastic to blank the hole. I don't know if the system is actually set up to work or not but all the kit is there for it to work. There is a relay down beside the gearstick that is bridged, so I think the button must have broken and they just bridged the relay so there wasn't a error message returned to the control unit. I must pull the fuse and play around to see if it is active or not

You should be able to test if the TEMS is wired fairly easily. Do the Hard-Al mod. Bouncing the car you can easily feel the difference between sloppy and firm. You'll also hear a click from the shocks as you alter their setting.

Niall if its bridged they are probably on sport mode full time, which would explain the big difference when we compared shox, looks like u just need a new button, threres a guy in ashbourne who breaks imports, the dashlight indicator do you have that?

Fergal, there was a indicator in the rev counter but I didn't bother getting the proper TEMS rev counter when mine broke, I just got another one of a GT-R mainly because the flashing lights were annoying me when I was driving. So no it doesn't have an setting indicator on the dash anymore. Do you have the number of that breakers in Ashbourne as I will need to get the A/C compressor from somewhere.
