Just looking for some feedback from other RAV4 owners. I got a 2008 RAV4 with 4WD and V6 engine. It's now got 12000 miles on it and since the beginning I have been consistently getting about 14 mpg in mixed city/highway conditions. Now, I know that many different factors can affect fuel consumption so I have tried a more conservative driving style, avoiding quick acceleration, sunroof and windows closed to reduce drag, Winter, Spring, Summer.... you name it... I've tried everything and the best I've gotten is 15mpg. I've complained to Toyota and they've tested the car several times.. They can't find anything wrong with it. At this point, Toyota claims that it is normal to see this huge variation from their posted fuel ratings (I believe they advertise 26mpg?). I find this hard to believe so I'm hoping to hear from other owners out there... Is there something wrong with my car or have I been misled by Toyota?

I have a 2007 4WD V6(269HP) Automatic Transmission I have about 65K on it and even with a fairly lead foot I get 21 miles to the gallon. I don't know what the big difference would be in a 2008, but it sounds like yours has a problem. I don't have any suggestions as to where to start, but something is amiss. I will say my V6 does have a lot of pep, I believe the ratio of HP to weight was about 1HP to 13.5 lb's. 0-60 in 6.4Sec. The published MPG for this 2007 model is 21-28mpg, and like i said were a bit heavy on the throttle so we mostly only see 21-23mpg.

I live in Canada and our gallons are about 120% the size of an American gallon so our MPG figures are always a little higher. I get 39 (Toyota advertises 37) with mine if I set the cruise at the speed limit (100 kph or 62 mph) and leave it alone and keep my foot out of it. That translates to about 32 or 33 in an American gallon. If I am passing everything in sight it drops to about 24 or 25 so that would be 21 American. There is clearly something wrong with either your car or with the way you drive it.

I have 1 2008 V6 Sport 4WD and in Canadian gallons I get 35-36 mpg. On the highway traveling 65-68 mph. Combo highway and city is around 28. This is without a leadfoot.
