Here's the deal, i bought a 1992 previa cheap b/c it had 'electrical problems'. After removing the 2 subs, 2 amps, 2 tv's, vcr, supernintendo, diversity tuner, and radar detector, i rewired the ignition and a few other plugs.

I charged the battery that was in it, and it was reading 10 volts at least (yes, my meter doesn't measure 12v well.). So trying to start it, the starter will start and turn the motor by a couple of revolutions, then the engine stops, the starter stops, and the solenoid provides a nice vibrant click. Further turns of the ignition may repeat the same once, then the solenoid just clicks.

Any ideas on what may be wrong? Is the motor seized? Or could it just be the starter? The starter IS turning the engine, but not by much, then it just fades to only the solenoid clicking.

I believe i still have an issue with the connections to the battery terminal. I can't tighten the positive very well, and it doesn't sit on the terminal well. Wiggling it will make the headlights come off/on. I"m thinking i need new wiring for the battery, but how will this impact needing the fuse box that's on the positive wire?

Go back to the Main Previa Forum Page and read what I wrote about difficulty starting in anthony33701's Post of hard or no starting. I explained it rationally and fully there, but am on my 1st cup of coffee right now and don't feel like re-writing it. I'll try and Copy & Paste what I wrote here, but check out the link to his problems that were the same as yours.

"The problem you describe sounds like corrosion on the battery terminals, as well as the inside of the wires running to Engine Ground and off the Positive post. My sister's Previa had the same problem yet if you have a 12 volt booster box, hook it up to either an extra set of jumper cables and then hook the Ground clamp to anywhere on the Engine Block and if possible, turn the key on and touch the Positive clamp to the Starter. If this works, then replace the cable ends or the entire cables, but that can be expensive. NAPA had Marine Terminal ends that worked with the stupid screw down cables attached to the Positive cable end.

If you can afford a friend , have them turn the key...as you stated, but listen to the Battery for a sizzling sound. Even though the cables will look good, the sizzle is high Resistance due to the corrosion inside the cables. Baking Soda & Water work well as long as none gets inside the battery for that will kill it. Also carry a can or bottle of Coke® with you to pour on the cable ends in case of just such an emergency again."

Hope this Helps...
