Hi Group, Has anyone researched/condidered the Toyota 6yr. 100K exteneded warranty to protect their Prius against the great unknowns as the cars age? I just purchased an 02 with 9,200 miles on it and have read some rather scarey posts about expensive repairs, most of which have been covered under warranty. I'm afraid to think what may happen as the cars get into the 60-85K range. I asked my dealer about the Plat. 6/100K warranty cost - she quoted $1,800 then immed. dropped it to $1,500. I then asked what she could do if a group of 10 or so owners came to her all at once and bought warranties - she lit up like a Xmas tree and said the price would be "very aggressive". Maybe we could shop the dealers and or Toyota and use group purchasing to drive the warranty to an affordable level, making in easier to swallow and protecting our cars thru the mid-term. What say you?

And right before I reached 36K, when the opportunity to purchase one ends, I felt it simply wasn't necessary. Now I'm at 45K without any regrets. I understand that most people aren't as trusting as me. So I'm documenting my experiences in detail on my website. Just check it in a few years once I've exceeded 100K. Then you'll feel much more comfortable seeing that I made it to that point just fine. You'll also have actual numbers showing what the routine maintenance costs were. JOHN http://john1701a.com

And don't forget... 8 year / 100,000 mile coverage of the hybrid system is standard. So purchasing the extended warranty just covers the other, more traditional components (which already have a reputation for being very reliable). JOHN http://john1701a.com

I think it is a great idea I sold my 04 Prius with only 10K miles because it left me stranded. I am now afraid to buy another one. Andy "save.cturtles"
