the touring edition has a low profile tire (the side walls are not as deep). it also has a different suspension. i drove both and found that the touring is a rougher ride. i think this is do to the tires giving it a bumpy ride that the standard prius. even though the touring has a better suspension system, the tires look cool, but is only better on smoother roads (in my opinion).

i've got a touring edition... the 3 differences are:

1) bigger wheels (different looking too - better in my opinion)
2) bigger rear spoiler (it's longer)
3) stiffer sway bars and suspension

i just got back from japan and many of the prius(es) there have the touring wheels but not the spoiler.

Let me first of all say that ANY MODEL is a wonderful car and well worth the cost. There are various packages that will be available on each of the models which determine the bells & whistles you get. The Touring comes automatically with one of these packages - but the few things that are unique to Touring only: larger tires & wheels (different style wheel & wheel cover), tuned suspension, wider spoiler. I've never been able to do a side by side test drive, but I'm told that the Touring has better handling, and shorter stopping distance (10 ft shorter 60-0 mph). This is attributed to the wider tires & less nose dive when brakes are applied (stiffer suspension). Perhaps because of greater rolling resistance of the larger tires, the Touring drops about 2 mpg. In my opinion: if you can find a Prius, buy it. If you find a Touring, buy it on the spot.
