Hello all,

I drive my car on a gravel road a lot; they are not too old and I service them regulalry. However, it seems I am having to air them up quite frequently. I can not find any leaks persay, but they are losing air somewhere. What could be going on? Could I have the amount of air in them uneven, or could it be the warmer weather? I'd hate to think I'd have to get new tires already. I have Goodyear BTW :)

Here's what I would do .....go to a tire shop and have them check for leaks. Then, ask them to inflate your tires to a proper level for your driving habits. An over inflated tire on rocky roads will incur more damage since there is less give. Get yourself a tire guage so you can check the tires yourself ...I do it almost weekly because I drive on gravel roads.

While inflating a tire to the max is great for saving gas, it does wear harder on the tires.

Thanks for the great advice Vicki! My step dad checks the pressure regularly and and evens them out, and they are always different pounds of air in them. There is no slow leaks he can find, so I guess my best bet is to take them to a shop as you suggested. I always try to find the easy way out. Must be the rocky roads!

I have high profile tires and they need to be checked a lot. The thing that gets me is when I check them and they all have 32psi. A couple of weeks later a couple of them will have 40 or 50 psi! It bugs me!

I have been told that COLD air can also affect tires but was wondering if heat and humidity could too. I am like you Accer, it drives me nuts. And dont get me started on the pain of hitting something in the road and knocking a tire out of balance! I hit not one but two 2x4's a couple weeks ago someone had dropped on the roadway. Better than the time i hit the stepladder and shredded a tire to bits! LOL

My mechanic says that heat and humidity can indeed alter the pressure. Isn't it a shame that when you hit the 2x4 and knocked the tire out of balance that hitting the other one didn't correct the problem!

Hey Kenneth, thanks for the info. Do you have any idea what it would cost on average per tire to be resealed? would i need to take it to a regular mechanic or could it be done at any oil change and lube place? Thank you in advance!

Good tires but unfortunately, don't last as long as they claim. I bought them just so I can be politically correct by buying American products.

But now, I decided to go for other tires rather or not it's made in America. But I will try to stay American.

You said it secrecy. I go through tires too quick to worry about labels and name brands now :) From here on out, its the cheapies because chances are I will have to replace them soon enough hehe

That's my problem. At around $120 per tire, twice a year it gets expensive fast. I spend almost as much on tires as I do insurance!

I am taking my car in this weekend to get something done about this tire issue, it is getting ridiculous. Also, going to stock up on fix-a-flat just in case :)

I actually had this same problem a while back. I ended up going to the tire shop and they suggested resealing the tires. All they done was take them off, clean them, and put them back on the rim. I believe that they charged me only $5 a tire for doing both the resealing and the balancing. I hope you have fixed the problem.

Dont use FIX A Flat!!!! It is not favoried by the tire guys. The best thing is to go to a good tire shop that will dismount and clean the rim.Corrosion forms between the bead and the wheel. Fix a flat will only make a mess and may provide a fix but I do not feel it is a good product. . I preffer to stay away fron the quick oul change shops and the big box tire stores.
