I have a 2001 Toyota Sienna that has recently started giving me problems. Whenever there is cold, wet, or snowy weather, I am unable to turn my wheels. The steering column seems to lock up and becomes very difficult if not impossible to turn. This usually lasts for a few seconds and then I am able to turn my wheels.

Has anyone ever experienced this? I have taken it to several mechanics and no one can identify the problem. One person, however, suspected that the rack and pinion could be going bad?

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

It sounds like you have water in your rack and pinion. I suggest a full fluid flush and boot inspection.
