Yesterday when I started my car(91t), the turbo gauge went up to 0 from -4 while the car was parked. I drove the car and pushed the gas to get the turbo to kick on and it didnt happen. When I tried to kick the turbo on the Hwy and pushed the gas, it seemed like the turbo cuts off and to push the gas I had to release the padal and slightly push it again. Does anyone have any idea whats wrong...? There is no engine light so far, so I am assuming there is no connection problem. You suggessions are welcomed.
Thanks

After checking the car out with someone I found out that there is no additional engine noise or white smoke coming. The turbo wheel is not spinning... and has gone bad.

Hmm....the problems with turbo's are that they can be temperamental. Have you examined the turbo itself? How many miles are on your vehicle? Did you check the wastegate to see if it is remaining closed? If it is not, you might have a bleed problem with the wastegate.

If not, check the turbo and see if it still spins freely right now. How was the car overall in accelerating without the turbo? was their any engine noise? was there any hesitation?

Normally the turbo only cuts off at the FCD point which is around 11.4 - 11.7 PSI. Do you have any modifications to increase the PSI? I.e...intake? exhaust? downpipe? boost controller? If so, that would put you pretty close to the cut-off point and you might be running into that problem....or EVEN if you just shimmied the wastegate then you might approach 11 PSI also....so you might have the fuel cut problems........

That could also tell you that maybe the FCON is not working correctly because it might be cutting you off for some reason....

but if you have any more questions or can provide anymore information email me at : james.derry@....

Hope I have helped somewhat!

I have not examined the turbo yet. I dont even know where the wastegate is I will look into that now. As far as modification, I dont think that has been done. The car have 98k miles. It works okay with the regular accelerator and yes there is some additional engine noise there.
Actually I would agree with you on being tempramental cuz about a month ago, while on the hwy I was right infront of a fast coming truck. When I floored the accelerator the turbo got cut off and I got nothing.... was pretty scary back there........ dont know why it did it though

Hmm...well it might not be the wastegate with the additional engine noise you are receiving. Have you changed the head gasket on this engine? If not, I Would DEFINITELY run a block test on the engine because of the additional noise. Do it IMMEDIATELY before driving it any further. Since you stated it works "okay" with the regular accelerator I am going to assume it DOES have some hesitation to it....

Have you checked or changed out the fuel pump/filter recently? Have you changed out the water pump??? Your fuel line or injectors might not be running right. I would run an engine analyzer test to see if the spark and burn patterns from the plugs is firing right. How is your oil pressure? You might want to run a vacuum test also to see if you have a leak or bleed somewhere.....

I know these tests will cost money; the block can be done for around $23 yourself. But if you take it in expect about $50 for that test and another $50 for the block and engine analyzer test. However, you definitely need a BLOCK test done if you haven't changed the HG on it yet. I would surmise that it hasn't been done; do IT if you plan on keeping this car. If you don't you run the problem of having a cracked block if the HG blows and supra's are notorious for that. The engine analyzer will tell you if you it is a fuel injector or burn problem....

if you haven't changed the fuel pump/water pump do so...that might eliminate the problem. You might also find out from the vacuum test you have a leak somewhere; remember, not all leaks are visible. Especially if you have a problem with the wastegate. Also check the blow-off valve on the turbo. These have a tendency to also go bad on you. This might be causing your turbo problem also.

Sorry, I know I am throwing alot at you; but its hard to diagnose without hearing or driving the vehicle. But, these tests are good to run especially with the car approaching 100K and if the HG hasn't been changed.
