I have a problem with my 92 2.4l 4x4, w\160,000 mi. It has developed a high idle 1500+rpm, that changes to pulsating(850-1100) when the brake is held after it is running temp. The idle ajust screw has no effect, unpluging the tps stops the fluctuation but the idle is still 1200+. I am just getting into efi but have the link to the fsm. I am going to have at the tps with my ohm meter, but I would accept all advice gladly.thanks

Sounds like it could be a few things. First the IAC could be sticking or a vac leak......

Check your coolant level, low coolant can cause that type of thing.

Also, having the idle set too high will causing the brake pedal/fluctuating idle problem.

Update on the tps, checked it , bad readings, replaced it, set with ohm meter. Still surging after warmup, checked coolant ,replaced thermostat to solve temp spike ,no vac leaks. Went to clear ecm codes by pulling efi fuse, found efi main relay hot to the touch. Could that be the problem?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) The cause surfaced finaly, seems to be a blown head gasket or a cracked head, nothing intermixing oil\coolant,just blowing coolant out the overflow tank. Which caused air pockets in the cooling system and the pulsing idle. Looks like I'll be pulling the head this weekend.
