I had a talk with my tax attorney and she looked up the statute. It applies to cars which are primarily powered by an electric motor and advises me to take the credit and let the government argue otherwise. An article last week in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram quoted the Vice President of Toyota America as saying that Americans would be able to take the credit up to $2,000.00. Please note that is a tax credit, not just a deduction.<br>DEC

The Honda Insight webpage (insightcentral.net) talks about this, too. It discusses the IRS tax credit guidlines than states:<br>Contradicting this, the U.S. Dept. of the Treasury's General Explanations of the Administration's Fiscal Year 2001 Revenue Proposals says that "No generally available income tax credit for the purchases of hybrid vehicles is available currently." In light of the "clean-fuel properties" incentive, though, this statement appears to be incorrect.<br><br>So it looks like, as of now, a tax credit is unavailable but being debated...
