Odd, Toyota model years start in Oct. and end in Aug. That door tag would mean the car is a '76 Coupe. Do you have a metal tag on the firewall that has the codes for trim, eng., trans.?

The easy way to find out is to look at the front of the car... if the corner lights come down at an angle then it's an '75 RA22... but if the lights go straight up and down then it's a '76 RA24!

-AJR

Hey Big,

Do you know of any differences between the bodies/interiorers between the 76GTLB and the 77GTLB? I know the major electronics (amp, coil, etc) are different, and I know that the dip-stick are on different sides of the engine, and the starter is a smidge different (but I think the 76 would work in the 77).... but yeah, do you know of any difference between the said 76 and 77's?

St. CelicaMon
{aka JK}

No difference between bodies and interiors. There were only mechanical changes with different emission standards. The dipsticks should be on the right side for both years. That change came about in '78 unless by some odd chance you got a newer block when your car was built. But you would have to have a build date of 8/77 meaning it was one of the last made.

Great to hear about the bodies/interiors -- thanks. I also appreciat the clarification on the mechanical standards.

As for the two engines -- to my knowlege, the '76 was the stock engine that came with the car. But due to the rod/wrist pin that blew, that engine is long gone. The engine I'm putting into it is a '78 -- *so I was told*. it looks like the same engine as the '76 was, and it is the same as I recall of the '78 I had years ago -- but then these engines look and are basically are the same. Do you know if there are any number indications on the block that would tell me what year the engine was made in?

Off hand, it may well have a mark and I just don't remember right now -- I'm still waking up and I'm not particularly bright just yet.

Anyway, gratz, and if you know, please let me know.
CelicaMon
