Hi!
1. yes, I tried running with the stock throttle rod linkage before
when we swapped over from 20R to 18RG. It's not going to work good, I
have tried it. You have that bind from using rods that affects pedal
feel plus engine vibration can also cause the throttles to open and
close inadvertantly. What you'll need to do is get a accelerator
cable/pedal assembly. I got mine fom Toyota, I ordered one for a 1983-
84 Celica GT/GTS. My brother had one and when we saw it was the
obvious one to use. Now The pedal feels like stock and even IF the
engine vibrates the cable linkage does not open the throttles unless
the accelerator pedal is depressed. By the way, I am running dual
carbs.
2. Rear end may be caused by a lot of issues, these factors may be
combining to give you that undesired oversteer condition
a. tires? conditions of them? b. Shocks, springs and their condition?
c. sway bars? have one in the back? d. weight you are carrying,
cargo? e.your throttle application, are you flooring it through the
corner? How tight is that corner? f. the road itself? g. panhard rod?
aka lateral control rod? condition of it, bushings? h. full fuel
tank? I can go on and one. Best way is to evaluate the car
carefully and try diffirent things one by one to see what the problem
may be.
3. My 18Rg can take the same Toyota OEM filters used for 20R,22R,
22RE.
4. Nah, my radio can play pretty loud! Clock ticking adds yet
another Classic touch on the Classic Celica! ;)
