Hi there,

We have a 1989 Hilux pickup 4-door and we need to replace the lap-only belts in the rear seat with shoulder belts so the kids can sit back there with their booster seats.

Has anyone done this? Is there a retrofit kit I can get from Australia/Japan or something?

Thanks,

RHFan

I'm in Australia, and I don't like your chances of getting a retro-fit kit from around here. Mostly because modifying cars (especially safety features) is extremely heavily governed. So the likelihood of an off-the-shelf item such as this is very low.

*for an example, putting an extra seat in a 5 seater wagon cost my boss AU$2500 a few weeks ago. Mostly in labour and the cost of the engineers certificate.*

I'm not sure what your local laws are, but i would imagine it not being very difficult to perform the conversion, just don't be dodgy. Make sure it is certified by an engineer or someone that knows what they are doing.

I hope this information is useful to you.
