I bought my first 4runner (2002 Sport, 103K, well maintained) a couple of months ago. I plan to use it for exploring Nevada back country where the roads are dirt and washouts are possible. I noticed a perfume/cologne scent in the car but thought it would dissipate quickly. I discovered several spilled sample bottles of perfume/cologne in the upper tray in the armrest. Running the tray through the dishwasher didn't help, so I replaced the tray. The odor has dissipated some, but is still noticable to me. Any suggestions on how to remove it? I let it air out as much as possible, but am not sure that's doing any good. I've read of ionizers that apparently remove odors but they have to be rented. A large tray of baking soda hasn't been tried, but I suspect it will only remove odor in the air, not neutralize the source of the odor. I have thought of having all the upholstery (all cloth) steam cleaned. Any suggestions? Thanks Rod Miller

Hey buddy...speaking from experience here...it ain't YOU noticing the smell of perfume that you've got to worry about. It's your 'ol lady noticing that smell. Ahem. __Birm

Excellent point. However, with this car, my wife was with me when we first drove it, so I'm safe. Rod

try spraying the carpet/upholstery with a fabric safe oxyclean solution or freebreeze.
