I recently just bought a 2005 Avalon Limited with factory JBL and factory Navigation. To be honest the Navigation system in the Avalon is simply something that leaves a lot to be desired. The controls are terrible and had I not got a great deal on the car I never would have got the Factory Nav.

This said I am wanting to know my options for replacing the factory Nav with an aftermarket navigation system.

If replacing the Nav is not an option then I would at least like to install an adapter that would provide support to connect an Ipod to the factory system and control it using the steering wheel controls. I have found several ipod adapter kits that work with the 3rd gen Toyota Avalon but all of them specifically say they do not work with the factory Navigation system that is in my car.

I appreciate any help or suggestions to try and improve the technology in the car. Other than the stereo system the avalon is probably the nicest car I have ever owned. You would think a car of this price would have a better navigation system.

Don't replace the factory navi. Toyota/Lexus/Scion is infamous for having an outdated navi system so hopefully Toyota will wake up and provide a good update disc for it's customers. For now I think you should just purchase a cord for your ipod. The Avy's should come with an aux port where you can connect your ipod in. If you cannot find it at your local best buy try your local dealership. I know most Toyota's come standard with an aux port so you should be fine with that for now.
