Ok, so who likes what on their ride, as far as rubber? And why aren't beadlocks
street legal?

I've got a '72 FJ40, with a lift - enough to ride 33x12.5s. I've only got the 4 tires for it (so no off-roading yet) and they're ... questionable. Needless to say, I'm replacing everything - rims to rubber. I like the wagon wheel or rock crawler rims, but I can't make up
my mind about meats. I plan to go off-road, but I'm not planning on climbing trees in it (read: don't need to go crazy - $$$). I want something good enough for trails & rocks, but I also plan to tool around the streets this summer. I was looking at the General M/Ts, Mickey Thompson's Baja Claws, and possibly the ProComp Mud Terrain. I like the Thornbird, but I hear nothing good about them (just "avoid at all costs"). But I dunno - I wanted to see who liked (and *didn't* like!) what before I made the purchase.

Thanks all!

Peace,
Jake

tires and tire sizes are like an opinion, everybody has one. So here goes mine. I run BFG Mud terrains 35x12.5 15 on a '70 Landcruiser, I have a small block chevy and a turbo 400 auto trans. I've been on sledgehammer and jackhammer several times, I've been up to Panamint City via Suprise Canyon as well as the Rubicon and many other trails from CA. to CO. I've also driven my cruiser to Alaska and back. I chose my tires because after I bought my cruiser I was running 33x12.5 15 and seemed to hang up on rocks more than the jeeps I was following, I determined it was due to the fj's having a much larger 3rd member that would catch on the rocks so I went larger.
After looking at what evrybody had on the market at that time I chose the BFG. It has a 3 ply sidewall, Which seemed better that the standard 2 ply on all the other tires, It has a great bite on the rocks, I've seen BFG climb when others slip, on my rig as well as others. And there is not alot of road noise or vibration from the Mud Terrain.
My cruiser is my everyday driver, so it was important to me to have a good all around tire. It works great on the mud and snow as well, I know other tires do well in specific areas but you would be hard pressed to do better than the BFG Mud Terrain. I've been running them now for 7 years, They have been to Alaska and back as I've said as well as all over CA. and CO.
Just One mans Opinion.
Happy wheelin'
Wes
