Has anyone taken there Prius on a extended road trip, lets say over 2000 round trip? I curious if the vehicle can handle hours of running with out a break. I'd like one but I drive for extended periods of time 300-400 miles a shot. I'm afraid that the vehicle may not be designed for what I'd put it through. Any thoughts? Thank you.
Bob

My wife, the actual owner of VOLTSWAGON, regularly travels for work. Her trips tend to be 250-300 miles at a clip, 5-600 Round trip. She is getting her best milege and performance on such trips. VOLTSWAGON seems to run best when it is warmed up and fully engaged. In fact, we are getting better milege on the highway than in town - it's ONLY 47+/- in town, over 52 highway. No problems. It seems perfect so far at 4k miles.

My experience as well in our Prius. We have driven it from San Jose to LA (400 mi), averaging 75 MPH and 52 MPG. That was the first time I have ever made that trip without having to stop for gas! This is, in fact, better than what Toyota claims for highway performance. A later trip to Sacramento, about 300 miles round trip proved the same performance. The car seems to thrive on road trips. Plenty of pep even at 70+MPH to pass other vehicles on the highway.

My husband drove my Prius 1500 miles round trip between Colorado (Fort Collins area) and Las Vegas. That's right THROUGH the Rockies! He was thrilled with the way it performed, even at altitude and with steep inclined. MPG (if I remember right) was about 48 for the ENTIRE round trip.

I think you will be THRILLED with the performance of the Prius - both local and highway driving. And we were thrilled that it was able to take the mountain driving.

Lisa

Yes Bob I just returned from a road trip to Fl. and Back (Philly,PA.)
totaled 3200 miles and the only thing I missed about the Prius is that Cruise contol is really nesscessary due to leg and foot gets tired of holding speeds after two or three hours.......
now on my wish list is the BRA,C.C. and tinted windows for my White Prius.

It's a great road car. I regularly put in 10 and 12 hours behind the wheel. Mine just turned 6 months and 20,000 miles. It goes as fast or as slow as you want it to. Drafting behind a speeding SUV helps a lot on the mileage.

Road trip!!
I just drove coast to coast. 4 days from So Cal to the East coast. No problem. through Kansas and Missouri I went through a tank of gas nonstop. No problen. The seats do not cuddle me as some cars do but after six hours without a break, I was able to get right out without any stifness in my back, not the usual circumstance. 50+ MPG. I love those $15 fillups.

Scott

I'd be fun to hear how many times and where you got gas, and what range of gas prices you saw. And did you notice mpg going up or down, on average, after many hours with the engine "hot"?

-DanC
