I'd like as many people as possible to respond to this.

If you are sitting on flat, level ground with the car 'on' even if the ICS is off and put the car into gear, does it roll?

Mine does and I'm not sure it's supposed to. It acts almost as if the accelerator pedal is ever so slightly depressed. The car will actually go a few miles per hour with my foot off the pedal.

What's your experience?

It's supposed to do that to simulate a standard automatic car. Look at the energy consumption gauge. You can see that it is rolling on electric till you put you foot on the brake. When you step on the brake, the computer senses it, and cuts power to the motor.

Burns

Mine does it too.
I read somewhere in the manual that it was set up that way to give the feel of a "normal" automatic transmission equipped car.
Since the Prius has "drive-by-wire" throttle (and brake)control, it is easy enough to program the computer to creep the car when no/brake no/throttle conditions are read.
Have you noticed a "bumping" sensation when standing still, in "Drive", and foot on brake?
Harald

My owner's manual says the creeping is intended to be similar to other automatic transmissions, and so I assume it is normal.
Alan

New car owners please read the manual. This car is not like all others..

The car has creep built into the electric motor. When stopped, holding the the car with light braking the car will push against the pedal. If you push the pedal harder the electic motor ceases to push. This is to simulate the feel of a normal auto tranny and to help hold the car on hillside stops.

There is lots of other useful info in the manual.

you don't need the manual to figure that one out. all cars have creep, so even though the technology is different, the car is "like all others"

this is a response to hbprius who said:

New car owners please read the manual.
