On my still under warranty Sienna van I have a peculiar problem.
No manual to hand, so not too sure of the technical terms, however.....

The storage compartment in the middle of the dashboard at floor level has a strange noise emanating from it.
As I drive it sounds like a ball rolling around in a tray.

The compartment is empty so whatever it is is behind it.
Tried to contort my hand into the compartment , then up and behind it but to no avail.
Purchased a flexible grabber but that seems to disappear and keep on going without finding a bottom.

One of the two "Cigarette lighters " situated above said compartment does not work.

The Toyota dealership I purchased from told me in order for them to diagnose the noise problem would entail taking off the entire dashboard unit and would cost me several hundred dollars.
Their opinion is that somehow I managed to deposit a 'ball' behind all the dashboard equipment.

Whether they are correct or not in their assessment it appears it will cost me a lot of money.
Now I'm thinking that perhaps the wiring behind the "cigarette lighter' has come free and something hanging from that wire rolls against the back of the compartment as i drive.

So, what to do?
Pay up the outrageous sum they require for a diagnosis of the problem?

Even when I've had the van in for repairs the managers said that whilst driving it the "rolling ball sound would drive them crazy"

Anyone heard of a problem like this?

Why would you have to pay money to have them fix the problem? It's still under warranty! Time to find another dealer. Sounds to me like a bolt or a nut that got dropped behind the dash during its installation.
