California is starting to put incentive money on the table toward the purchase of hybrids. In the San Joaquin Valley (8 counties), a $2,000 incentive is being provided. (http://www.valleyair.org/transportation/LDV%20Program/trans-LDV.htm</\ a>) This is presently the most generous program in the state. The incentives are being administered through the local Air Pollution Control Districts.

Here in San Diego, there's now a little movement! I have been in contact with Chuck Spagnola, the "vehicle" contact with the San Diego APCD (http://www.sdapcd.co.san-diego.ca.us/). I have also been in contact with Irene Salazar (clean vehicle incentive contact) with the CA Energy Commission ("CEC").

Spagnola and others from the San Diego APCD are scheduled to meet next week with the CEC to discuss implementing an incentive program which will probably include hybrids. CEC WANTS San Diego (and other counties) to institute these programs -- and the incentive money IS available for the taking! The counties just need to sign on! NOW is the time for US to lobby our local politicians in an effort to encourage them to get this program going. If we're successful, we might even see $2,000 (or more) toward the purchase of Prii scheduled to be delivered this summer! Let's get this done!

Peter (& others)

You may be interested in attending the meeting of the San Diego Regional Clean Fuels Coalition on June 8th.

The meeting is at 1000 at Miramar College, Bldg 1, 10440 Black Mountain Road, San Diego.

Chuck S. is a member. We need to bring this issue up at the meeting. I've brought it up before and I think the organization is getting more receptive.

BTW, the program will be a presentation by Ben Sullivan of Th!nk Mobility. Should be real interesting.

Anyone that's in the area on the 8th would be welcome to attend. We're a friendly bunch.

P.S. It was through this organization that I first got the opportunity to drive the Prius in 1999 (a Japanese version) as well as CNG and electric vehicles.

Ken (Th!nk Clean Air)

Does Chuck S have an e-mail address? From what I understand, they plan to join the "new" incentive being developed by CARB but it will be 4-5 months away ... hopefully for the arrival of MY2002.

ps & jezroj,

This is the website for the San Diego Regional Clean Fuels Coalition (formerly the San Diego Regional Alternative Fuel Vehicle Coalition). The URL didn't change when the name did.

Check it out and find out about the coalition. Chuck S. is on the Board and works for SDAPCD. Click on 'Contact Us' and you'll find his work phone and e-mail address. The address looks to me like it might have a typo in it.

http://www.sdrafvc.org/Random/04.html

Hope to see you all at the meeting, and yes it's 10 AM.

Ken (Be there for Clean Air)

Ken--
Unfortunately, I will NOT be able to attend. Fridays are the busiest day of the week for me at work. Please keep in touch and let me know what they have to say. Chuck (and Irene Salazar) told me that they are planning to meet this week to see if CEC can "sell" SDAPCD on a plan. I am certainly willing to become an activist so we can see an incentive in time for our 2002 Prius deliveries! Keep in touch!
--Peter
ps@...
(619) 299-8234
