I am wanting this 02 Sequoia Limited. But it has 78K miles. I would be financing it for 6 years. Is this too many miles, or should it last? Price is 17,000.00. Also, should I purchase an extended warranty, and through where, dealership, or online?

are you buying from dealership? if so, does this vehicle comes under certified previous owner, usually warranties thats comes from dealership has at least two more years and up to 100k miles for a price. ask the toyota dealership saleman. if your buying from private owner, ask to see all his services record, see if he did all the big service that is required from toyota (maintenance schedule).
78k miles is about right for a 5 or 6 year old vehicle, figuring 15k miles per year. also have a mechanic to check out this vehicle before you buy, and have the seller smog certiflied the vehicle for you, in california, the seller must have it smog for the buyer. also find out if the seller has done the recall on this vehicle, the ball joints was suppose to be taken care of by the dealership, check the vehicle for all recalls via internet. usually sequoia are good vehicles if taken care of properly.
becareful when buying extented warranties from private company, they usually have some reasons for not taking care of some warranties, you have to read the warranty contract word for word.

My advice would be to find out if it has had the recall done on the front lower ball joints. If not...make them fix it first if you decide to buy.

Also, there have been numerous posts on different forums about wiring issues on the older models. I have a 2004 Limited with 72K miles (I love it), but in the last two months I have had about 4 different electrical issues that the dealership can't seem to fix.

The extended warranty would be advisable if you can afford it.....if the truck has been taken care of you will be able to tell.

Good luck!
Mike

If all checks out with the car, I see no problem with buying a '02 Sequoia with the milage and price stated. The problem I have is financing an essentially six year old vehicle for six years. No offense, but if you are considering a six year finance, you'll be upside down before you know it. Then you'll have trouble getting into something else down the road because you'll owe more than the car is worth.

Just my .02.

Have the dealership run the VIN to check for recalls.

For the record, financing that old of a vehicle is not a good idea b/c of how far upside you'll be. Why not look for a newer vehicle with less miles. If you must have that particular truck, shorten your financing term and c if your rate drops. If not, take the loan for 6 yrs and pay it off in 3 to 4.

And ext. warranties can be a huge rip off. Best to pocket the cash and save it for a rainy day.

Just my 2 cents. Not worth anymore than that.
