I am about to order a Prius in San Jose, California. I asked when the side airbag option would be available and was told that it can be added after delivery of the car (as well as a navigation system). Is this true? I've read previous posts about this only being available in Hawaii at this time. Also, since the price is set, does it matter which dealer you pick?<br><br>Thanks, <br>Steve

What's that saying, if it isn't in writing you're sol!<br><br>Since the info is contrary to what most have been told, get them to put it in writing, oh...and make sure they indicate an approximate cost.<br><br>I could just see you going back later and them saying, yeah, we can put in side air bags if we replace the front seats, install the sensor and change the computers and that will only be 4000.00. :)<br><br>Just about anything can be done for enough money.<br><br>As far as the chains/wires. I and some others had Blizzak P175/65R14 WS50 tires installed for Winter traction. It also solve the problem of remembering to rotate your tires since you will have to change them twice a year.

AFAIK, adding the nav. system to a 2001 continental US Prius is a huge undertaking, if even possible, because the required wiring harness is not present. I strongly suspect the same goes for side air bags. <br><br>You might want to consider a different dealer. Stevens Creek Toyota did pretty well for me. (I hope they're not the ones who told you this stuff!) You should be able to find a dealer who will sell for MSRP w/o a lot of bull

NO!! Side Airbags CANNOT be added after Delivery!! If they become available while your Prius order is in the earlier stages-(that is pre-production of your car) according to memos from my distributor, the dealer is supposed to be notified that an option has been "turned on"<br> and your salesperson should be on the phone to you to let you know about it soon after. <br> NAV system? I'm not sure about that. I also hope this wasn't Capitol Toyota. The salesman I dealt with when I placed my order in early November has moved on. I'd hate to hear that his replacement is not up to Priuscenti standards!<br><br>--gc<br><br>P.S. The replies hint at the answer to your last question. The quality of information and service you get definitely varies from one dealership to another. In fact, wrt. the Prius, that's the primary competitive differentiator since no one's selling them for under MSRP.
