Hi, I'm having problem with engine skipping (hesitating) while shifting from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 3rd. Once up to power no problem. have put in new spark plugs, wires, and fuel filter. Also have added dry gas and injector cleaner. No help. Has anyone had similar problem and found a cure?

I had a similar problem. So far, I've had the catalytic converter, O2 sensors & throttle body replaced (all under warranty, of course). I had a condition last weekend where the Check Engine light came on and the engine was straining to move the truck along. I let off the gas and let it coast half a block and the rough running smoothed itself out. I'm about to replace the fuel filter this weekend as I'm thinking something got caught in the fuel line and caused a partial clog, which caused the running lean condition.

Well, I bought myself an Acctron OBD II code scanner and got the trouble code P0171 which is a "System Too Lean Bank 1" trouble code. The Toyota mechanic I spoke too said it could be anything from a vacuum leak to a bad mass air flow sensor to a bad fuel injector to a bad O2 sensor. He also said I'd have to let them hook it up to their computers to pinpoint where the problem is. I want a second opinion as I don't trust the Toyota mechanics anymore. Each time I take my truck out of one of their shops, something else goes wrong after a few weeks.

As for the bucking and surges I experience while driving, I read on another forum that a bad O2 sensor was the cause. I'm bringing my truck to my private Honda/Acura mechanic to have him work on.

Couldnt it be your clucth slipping? go about 30 mph then put it in 5th and floor it, if you dont accelerate then your clutch is slipping, if your truck is auto then scratch all that , test the torque convertor. if you need directions let me know.
