Hey folks!

I got a new Yaris Diesel yesterday and, needless to say, I simply love it. However my problem is that the dealer couldn't get for me the owner manuals in English. I have a whole bunch of books, booklets and brochures in Danish, which unfortunately I can't read.

I hope someone on this community can spend the time to answer some questions.

1. First, can I contact Toyota directly myself to get the English version of the manuals? I don't mind if they are in PDF format or whatever. Or is there some way for me to get the manuals in English?

2. Another question, do I need to break in the engine? The dealer said nothing about it and, being my first new car, I wasn't aware that it might need it until some friends told me today.

3. The dealer said that the first oil change should be after 15.000 km (~10.000 miles) or one year whichever comes first. For my previous car, I would change the oil every 3.000 km, or 5.000 when I used semi-synthetic, and 15.000 km seems way too much. Is it different for diesel engines? I actually asked the dealer three times whether I understand correctly 15.000 km or 1 year and he said yes it's correct.

4. I read on various sites / forums that the first oil change should be very soon, like after 1-2000 km, how come the dealer said 15.000?

I think I have a lot more questions but for starters I feel it's enough :)

Thanks in advance for any replies.

DK FAN:

First of all, DO NOT wait until 1 year or 10,000 miles to change your oil. Change it every 5,000 miles or 4 months, whichever comes first. Gasoline engines need this to stay healthy, and diesels especially need it because they are inherently dirtier to begin with. As far as "breaking in" the engine goes, the basic general rule is not to drive at the same speed for long periods of time. That's really all you need to do.
