Howdy from Cairo!

Can anyone tell me the size of speakers that will fit the front and rear doors without modification? I don't even know how to remove the door (guess a phillips screw driver would probably do it), so I was hoping that you might have some insight for me.

Hey Rob you hit my specialty! 5&1/4's would fit almost perfectly or with a little moding you could fit a nice 8" sub from OZ audio or kenwood. Any more questions? ~Chumpchiggy,Silver GT

Yeah man. I'd love to ask you a ton of questions about this goofy ass stock system in here! If I only want to drop the new head unit in, how do I get around the stock amp or do I not want to? And if I throw my amps in, are there crossovers for the components in the front, or do I need to do that on my own as well? Do you have AIM? I'd love to talk to ya for awhile about this thing before I tear into it. CloNeGTS

Rob, I've been toying around with the stereo in my GTS for a little while and this is what I've found: The stock opening for the woofer fits my MB Quart DSD 216 6.5" midrange almost perfectly, I had to make a small wood piece that lines up with the stock screws and then attached the woofer to that (10 minutes). The tweeter works too but is a little tricky. The stock tweet is attached to a mounting bracket by one screw in the back. Now this would be perfect if you could just unscrew it, but of course Toyota felt the need to seal this screw with an epoxy of some sort. I had to use the 'ol multi-tool and grind the head off the screw and then knocked the tweeter out. After that the stock tweeter was just about screwed. The MB Quart tweeter now fits perfectly on the stock bracket. I am just waiting on an amp and I will be rockin'! Hope that helps! Casey Corcoran Super White Y2K GTS

That's cool, thanks. I will probably buy a new component set to put in there, but if I stay with the stock door components for now, do they have a crossover with them or is that done by the stock amp behind the glovebox? I don't want to mess with installing my amps without new components if I am going to have to do a crossover for the stock tweets and midranges.

Well, as far as the new head is concered I personally would leave the stock amp powering the in house speakers(cab speakers). Now I would probably tweak it a little myself. I haven't seen a stock crossover in the Celi so I can't help you there. Otherwise Caddence Audio makes a phenominal crossover for the price. If you have never heard of Caddence then it probably isn't avaliable in your area. But I could get you some prices on there stuff if you are interested. They only make car audio and it is all made for competition. One of the best on the market right now. My second choice would be OZ for a componet set, aproximately $175.00 and they scream! All competition stuff as well. Not quite as high quality as Caddence but better than Kenwood or Fosgate etc....My brother n law runs a stereo/custom auto shop called Far Beyond Imagination (F.B.I.)in Michigan and is a dealer for both and more.NOPI,Eibach,Wings West just to name a few. So if you want some prices on stuff let me know & I'll get right back to ya. Good luck Rob! ~Chumpchiggy,Silver GT

Since you work at a stereo place and know what the best stuff really is.... What would be the best speakers to put in for the money? Also, any hot ideas on adding something with the head unit to fill the double din hole? EQ, in dash changer....I looked at the Eclipse 6-disc in dash changer - $600..ouch, too much to just plug a hole. I am looking at their EQ though. Only 1/2 din, but it will help. Hook me up with some recommendations and prices for components for the fronts. Also any ideas on the din problem. I really don't want to put a pocket in there! I would love to order stuff through you if you didn't mind, for Wings West, NOPI, all that stuff. One thing at a time...one thing at a time..hehe. I get excited about stuff, reach for the checkbook....oh yeah!! Forgot about that part! hehe Thanks man, Rob CloNeGTS

Nope, the stock amp does not crossover the speakers. Instead, there is a cheap $.50 capicater soldered inline to the tweeter. This is a pretty cheap and inaccurate way to do it. Chris GTSOne
