As the car is fitted with a speed limiter has anyone found an easy way to disable the system ? Also anyone had their car "chipped", if so where are the chips from and how much cost and what power increase ?

Cutting a wire to the ecu will do it, i believe Dave massie reckoned it worked by cutting the pink SP1 wire but got an ecu warning light when he exceeded 112 mph. Shpuld be something in the archives either here or on the celica-non-turbo list. Fergal had his superchipped but IIRC he didn't think it was a huge big increase in performance for the money spent.

IIRC dave massie tried this a few years back, he reckoned it delimited but once he went over 113mph he got a warning light on the dash.

mine hasn't got a limiter on and i know that for sure. maybe because its the 20th aniversary model not sure, but iv had it up to where the needle passes the kmh sign on the dials and right up to the pin at zero, she still feels like she wants to go.. the only warning sign was the one in my head shouting slow the fuck down. >

20th anni is 5th gen, should be 1991? All imports should have the limiter, I haven't hit mine but at 110 plus the speedo would be probably be indicating 120 plus and off the scale so maybe we're just not trying hard enough? Anniversary model should be aquamarine blue/green pearl with suede interior and momo steering wheel, gt4 front bumper and would have originally had gold 20th anniversary stickers all over it.

Yup, it's lovely car, I know it well. Not sure about the speed limiter though. I fitted an MPH dial to the dash (just a cover on top of the kph one, and a bugger to fit!). 110mph was the highest marking, and was at about a 4 o'clock position, but on an empty bit of motorway at night I've had the speedo needle pointing very close to straight down which would be about 140 if the markings carried on at the same spacing. Not sure what that is in real life. Getting on for 130 maybe?   I've sold it now, but a hand held GPS or sat nav on the dash should tell you a genuine figure.   20th anni is 5th gen, should be 1991? Unlike momo alloys which are made of the finest quality cheese. I've got a set of four momo sport 16" rims that aren't round anymore. Sevres me right for driving over a level crossing I suppose. What was I thinking?   On the other hand, I've got probably the most expensive flower pots in my street! lol my steering wheel is badged MOMO with Toyota in smaller lettering on the horn button, probably made of highest quality japanese moose hide.
