I recently inherited an '87 MR2 from my deceased grandfather. Upon driving said vehicle home, i noticed that the arrow for the speedometer had come off. The next day I took the dash apart and stuck it back on. I was drving it to class the day after and it started making this horrible screeching/squealing/screaming noise. (coming from the dash) Shorty after this sound started the battery gauge, the tachometer, and the speedometer all started freaking out and moving back and forth rapidly. The arrow on the speedometer then proceeded to pop back off. Needless to say, I was ****. I'm not very car savvy but I did check ALL the fuses and they are in working order. I haven't taken the dash apart again because, well, it was a hastle in-and-of itself. I'm really trying to avoid taking it to a dealership due to my lack of money, ESPECIALLY if it's a simple fix. Any suggestions?


p.s.-the sound, to me, sounds like gears that have come off track. And I know it's the speedometer because this sound will become higher,or lower, pitch based on my speed.

Seems like a loose or *gulp* broken speedo cable and maybe even a tacho cable.
