Hello all...Have a 2001 Tundra 4.7 4x4. I am the second owner and the truck has 171,000 miles. Runs and looks great but, front breaks squeal like a stuck pig when breaking in reverse. Anything I can do?

Squeeling Brakes in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing.

Check your pads to see how much meat is left on them. You should have at least 5mm left, otherwise change em at your next opportunity.

If there is next to nothing left, it could be your wear-bars squeeling on the rotors....indicating it's time to change the pads (I did some this weekend....1 bottle of wine and 2 hrs).

If you have pad left....then you can either put up with the noise...or if you change the pads use some anti-squeel compound that either comes with the new pads...or bought seperately. Remember, this compound does not go on the face of the pads....it goes on the back side where the metal touches metal (this is where brake-noise happens).

I'm going with Pongo on this....squealing generally is the break pads. I should know...I go through a lot of them!

If your brakes aren't worn down, it could be that they're just dirty. Sometimes if they're dirty it'll make them squeal.

Try turning the rotors and install new pads...
