Bush wants to decrease the dependence of foreign energy, but gives $1.5 billion dollars for hydrogen tech. What about the stuff that is here today? Hybrids are here and now, and they can go a long way. I was excited when he started talking about cleaner air and helping the environment, but they are working on technology that is still a good way off. I think hybrids will help people accept hydrogen vehicles and the technology that is learned in hybrids will help hydrogen. I think it's better to work with a known and unknown (gas engine and electric motors) and then go from known and unknown again (electric and hydrogen) rather then taking a giant leap. I think this is a reason that the EVs haven't caught on as well. Gas engines have been around forever, take small steps, not leaps. End of rant. Robert LeBlanc 2K silver '02

I think what the Bush-Whacker was getting at is Fuel Cell Technology. From what I understand the current fuel cells use an organic type fuel such as ethanol, gasoline or other hydrocarbons. Remember, Bush is BIG oil. He still wants to make his money on black gold.

Amen to that... We have voted with our pocketbooks and are doing the right thing with our Hybrids! More grass roots exposure to Hybrids could help turn the tide of public opinion towards demanding that we act NOW to clean our air and reduce our dependence on foreign oil while moving towards a Hydrogen-based economy. Keep evangelizing your Hybrids Group and hold our "elected officials" to task! :-) http://www.msnbc.com/news/865867.asp?0sl=-11#BODY

Yea, till Bush and all his buddies make every last cent they can before doing the right thing... the environment will be worse off, our children will be sicker, we will have pissed off the rest of the world further and will be inviting terrorist activities just to preserve the fat cat's income steam for a few more years. They could transition now, create new, higher tech jobs, bring Hybrid and Renewable Energy industries to America and make leave a lighter footprint on the Earth by just promoting off the shelf solutions now. He should have held up a Compact Floursent bulb and asked everyone to replace just one in each home - lots of barrels of oil saved with just one simple move..... politics - yuck!
