My '06 corolla has only 21K miles on it and the radio sounds static-y only on the right side. We've had the speakers on the ride side replaced, but the static is still there. Even when I have a strong signal it's there. The dealerships I've been to are uncooperative because they can not hear the noise, neither can my parents. It seems that everyone my age and younger can hear it. I keep running into brick walls whenever I take it in because of this problem. Any suggestions or does anyone else have this problem with their radio?

You may have a bad ground somewhere. Does it sound like static, or kind of like a dentist drill?

Stomp your feet at the dealership. Something smacks!

There's nothing worse than a small problem like that which ruins a new car experience.

It sounds like static, almost like I don't have a good antenna signal. But I've been told that's not the problem because the "ST" on the face of my radio doesn't flicker.

just because the stero signal isnt flickering doesnt mean theres not a problem. Are you sure that its not just your local broadcasters? Does it do it on all stations?

Yes, it does it on all stations. It's a problem in Austin, all along I-35 and in Dallas. It's worse whenever the car is in motion, and not as noticeable when it is stationary.

Go back and take a tech along with you to show the problem. Just keep stomping and they will eventually look into it more.

My feelings exactly, I'd say keep taking it back to the dealership till they fix it,

As per a dentist drill, my car sometimes does that on the right side, but not often. Anything common to that?

I did hear something a whiled ago on the right side, even over the radio, that sounded like something was loose and rattling very rapidly. I can't recall if it was similar to a dentist drill. I thought it was a window cracked at first, but when I checked it was all the way up.

Thank you for all the advice. Maybe my 4th or the 5th trips to dealerships will be the charm!

9 out of 10 times its either a bad or loose ground somewhere. I have this going on in my camaro after changing motors and its driving me nuts trying to find it, not that I can really hear my radio when the car is on anyways.

Take it back to the dealer until they fix it or find the problem. Eventually they will get tired of seeing you and will take care of the problem.

While we're on this question, I have anothe radio one ....I know that AM signals are pretty weak but yesterday I noticed how much more sensitive they are to internal workings of the car. Doesn't happen with FM at all so I don't think it's a ground wire.

Although I haven't seen the back of it, my wife's van has a different connection for AM. That may be the case on your radio.

Usually am is on the same antenna as fm, at least thats how every car Ive ever seen is. I know all aftermarket radios only have 1 antenna input too. I hate am because its quality is so horrorable.
