im replacing the steering damper on my 88 pickup 2WD. it has a ball joint, but the new part that the computer at advanced says replaces has a thru bolt. that doesnt seem right.

Does the "ball joint" have a threaded stud sitting 90* off of the stabilizer? If so, the thru bolt will do the same thing, but won't have as much range of movement. They may be counting on the flex of the rubber bushing to do the job.
