Toyota is recalling some cars because the power steering reverts to manual "ie goes out" "At no time should you lose control of the car" (per the online help)

At least they are taking care of it early instead of the business prectice of ford/firestone

I wonder if this has anything to do with the power steering problem we experienced last month. Ours failed and the dealer did some adjustment or something. Still waiting for a copy of the work order to come in the mail.

Well so far I haven't seen any mention of the recall in the news. If someone sees an article, please post it in the forum. I'll do same if I see anything about a recall.

To be honest, the steering on the Prius is great. The ride is smooth the steering is smooth, now if they only had cruise control, I could sleep....

I called Toyota Canada and they have no info on a recall of any kind on the PRIUS. They did a search by my VIN and nothing came up.

Doesn't mean there isn't a recall that we/they don't know about yet though.

your trouble is that you live in Canada - just kidding

Toyota help said it only affected some of the cars and to expect information in the mail if your car is being recalled

It sounds like the problem you had may be it but I'm not positive. As mentioned before the power steering unit malfunctions and the steering goes into manual mode. And Toyota stressed not to worry the car is fully driveable. Also, your dealer may have repaired it already.
There may be recall info on www.alldata.com but in my experience they are slow to post and as of yesterday there was no posting yet
