Hi RAVers. I've got a 2000 RAV4 GX 2.0 and today the stereo unit broke The CD is playing but very quietly. the display is not working and none of the buttons work at all. Took it to the garage as it was randomly booked in for MOT and all the wiring was apparently fine so they told me I would need to get it repaired or replaced by Toyota. Phoned the local Toyota dealer and they couldn't really give me much info. Said they would need to have the stereo for 2 weeks before deciding if it's repair-able or needs total replacement, and they wouldn't be able to tell me the cost of either until this point. I personally like to know how much I've got to shell out before they take it out! So I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did? My husband would prefer me to just get a stereo from Halfords or somewhere with an ipod lead but by doing this I would lose the other options the stereo gives eg fuel consumption info, outside temperature etc as I can't see any CD players on the net that provide these same functions. Has anyone been in this predicament? Did you get a straight replacement from Toyota and can I ask how much it cost-ish? Or did you just get a normal CD player and a fascia fitted? Your help will be much appreciated - I NEVER drive in silence and want it sorted asap!
