Here goes......   A/C = Air conditioning....... ECON = Air Con (not as dragging on the engine) Dial = Temperature. Squiggle Arrows... (Re-Circulated Air or Fresh)   To use select temperature and press Auto.  this will work out the fan speed and direction for best effect.  (open vents if needing cold air).  The fan speed will increase and decrease as required.  Use the air con if you require a lower temperature than the "Ambient" temperature outside..   Pressing any button (direction or speed) should turn off the Aircon !     HTH

ahh the joys of celica climate control. the dial is the heating control in degrees (fahrenheit?) auto is climate control i.e. set your temperature and press auto and the system monitors the air temp and turns the fans on and off and changes the direction to maintain the cabin at your preferred temperature. Air conn runs the air conn full tilt and supplies lots of lovely cool air, econ is the economy version of air conn and runs it half as often as airconn. Rectangular jobbie with the arrows sounds like the rear demister switch which demists the rear window.

Just read Marty's reply... If the Squiggle switch is at the very top of the panel and 1 switch the its the "Fresh / Re-Cird" switch if its the 5 switches above the fan speed then it's the directions.... HTH Chipster [ICOC] ST183 4-WS (Auto) 1991

Feck I forgot about the rear-windows demister....  it's the button to the right of the temp dial and directly above the A/C and ECON buttons..
