HI all new member, got a problem with my 1994 tercel automatic.Lately my car has been dying or sputtering and dying when I come to a stop and try to accelerate, this does not happen all the time but enough to making driving scary.Car runs ok when at speed, idle seems a bit low.Not sure if it is EGR valve ,vacum leak, bad wires not showing any trouble lights on dash any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

I had a similar problem with my Corolla. I thought it was a vacuum hose leak until I called my dad. Take out your air filter and see if it's dirty or if there is oil residue in your filter box. If there is clean it with some de-greaser (I used Mr. Clean) then leave the air filter out and drive around the block and see if the problem continues. (It should idle TOO high now).

If that's it replace the air filter and look into seeing if oil is backing up into your air filter.

I'd check egr. Might be not closing all the way at low speed and idle.

Insurance papers say 1994 but car reads 1993 I cannot find egr valve on this motor, were they on 1993 tercels.Could it be the idle circuit acting up or a oxygen sensor not working properly, how to you check these items. Thanks Roland.
