I ordered my Prius on 8/9/00. The dealership received a confirmation letter from Toyota a few days later stating my delivery date would be in three to four months. After reading many of the posts, I am beginning to wonder if this translates into five or six months. I was hoping to receive it before the snow flies. Any ideas?

I delivered two Prius' this week. I've been told by Toyota District Office that I can expect a November delivery date with any orders placed this month.

Lithia, the Portland Regional office is correct. But that same info is available publicly, on The Prius website at the entrance to the Purchase Reuest process. A message indicated when delivery can be expected is updated when each month of production is committed. PM

The folks from lithia can correct me, but I believe that this large dealer group (numerous franchises and locations) are based out of OR.....PM

I'd like to think that Toyota is managing user expectations and quoting longer delivery dates than would actually occur.

In my case, I ordered on 7/22, the dealer entered the purchase request and I got an e-mail that day thanking me for my request. The next day I got an e-mail confirming that I had completed the purchase request and dealer transaction.

The sales manager was under the impression that it would be 10-14 days to deliver the car and was surprised to learn from Toyota 3 days later that it would be early to mid-November. I also received an Purchase Request Update e-mail from Toyota on 7/27 that I could expect to receive my vehicle in 2-3 months.

A week ago, the sales person called to say that it now was looking like the end of September, according to the Toyota District Manager. This is consistent with the lower range of the Toyota e-mail.

FYI - The dealer had only received their demo car a couple of days prior to my showing up, and only a few people had been through the training. For the test drive, the sales person found someone that had been in the training and the four of us (including my girlfriend) piled into the car. The dealer drove it out, I drove it back... Even though they had been through the training, they didn't know what the "B" position on the transmission was for - saying that it was to force the car to use the battery. I subsequently learned from this newsgroup that it actually is more like the 2nd gear of an automatic transmission - causing the car to use regenerative braking more aggressively, like you'd downshift going down a hill to use engine braking to slow the car down.

Someone else was looking for January delivery of a Prius and wanted to know when to order - I'd order real soon, since they're now quoting December/Mid-January.

That person was me wondering about January delivery.

However, I'm in Canada and the order process is different, as is the car (slightly).

Bob,

I feel your pain.

I started asking the many dealers around here (Minnesota) back in February. It wasn't until 6/5 that I was able to actually place an order. I'm still waiting for delivery. Of course, I don't see how this is horribly bad. People have to wait over around a year to get a PT Cruiser (which isn't that special of a vehicle from an engineering point-of-view).

I just keep reminding myself that it's worth the wait and the longer it takes the more money I'll have for a down-payment.

JOHN
http://home.att.net/~john1701a/

Congratulations on your pending Prius. Nice to see someone from Saturnfans.com

Re: your LW2. You MUST have a good dealer. That was where we believe 99.9% our problems occurred so it is only right that he got stuck with that LEMON. Sure pity the person they resell the car to. Couldn't wait for the 2001's to come out and Saturn would have cost us 1500.00 MORE because of their errors/screwups. In the end there must have been a reason that we were put through 4 months of crap from Saturn and I MUST thank them for it because we wouldn't be in a PRIUS now without their incompetence. :)

How would you compare the interior space of the Prius to that of the Saturn? How about ride noide level? Thanks

Prius is a little shorter in the front legroom BUT since it doesn't have anything between the driver/passenger (shifter, tranny hump) it has WAY more width to move around making up for not being able to stretch right out when you're 6'1".

Noise level is quieter maybe due to the DOUBLE weather stripping.

vs the LW2, the Prius is much louder, much rougher, much smaller. Vs. our SL2, the Prius is a little louder, a little rougher, and a little bigger.

Guess the V6 in the LW2 is quieter than the 4 in the LW1. The drone of the LW1 made it difficult to hear our kid in the back seat, now we don't have that problem. :) Maybe the back seat is closer to the front in the PRIUS, who knows.

Ride is DEFINITELY smoother in the PRIUS vs the LW1. That was an important reason for buying it because car vibration causes me increased leg pain.
