On the famous pages of our great car under:
http://www.prius.toyota.com/peace/theft.html

it states that:

"The system comes with a glass breakage sensor that disables the starter when activated. And unless you use your Prius key, the starter system will become disabled and Prius will not start"

Anybody knows it this is true?

Robert

The "glass breakage sensor" is an inexpensive option, and all the rest is true, too.

(I had the glass breakage sensor installed on my Prius by the dealer.)

- Peter

>>>"The system comes with a glass breakage sensor that disables the starter when activated. And unless you use your Prius key, the starter system will become disabled and Prius will not start"<<<

Doesn't make any sense to me. The car can't be started without the key in any case. Whether or not the glass has been broken is irrelevant.

It is impossible to hot-wire the car.

There is no starter motor.

No key, no start - period.

Steal the seats, yes, steal the car, get a flatbed...

Rob

In Message 4117 Peter (mo_mpg) said:
<snip>
> If they were a really skilled thief, while they
> were in the (quiet) car, they might even be
> able to disable the alarm and hot-wire the car.
Um . . . Hot-wire? NO WAY MAN! - not unless they also happen to be a world-class crypto-hacker and have a "spare" half-hour alone with the Prius. Look at the New Car Features and other manuals for what the dealer has to do if the key recognition system takes a dive.
Now then - tow truck or flat-bed are a completely different story, honking horn and flashing lights or otherwise...

Just LOVE my Prius: all the LANs, all the techno - I even get three "crypto keys" with it!

Bill Powell
(Prius: Just Drive It!)
