I was at a local car dealer today looking at a 1995 Corolla. I took it for a test drive and it was fine except for a few problems. There was a noticeable rumble to the car, like the exhaust might have a hole in it. The other problem I had was when you punched on the gas, there was a weird clunk sound. Not totally sure if it was in the transmission or the motor might have a bad mount. As it happens, you can feel like something is clunking back into place or something might be loose. When it is in any other gear, it doesnt do it. Going to have the dealer look at it over the weekend (hopefully) and try to have a friend look at it. Its only $3,000 and my trade-in will be about $650. Mileage on the Corolla is about 133,328.

Anyone who may know about this clunking or knocking problem, please let me know. I really like the feel of this car and would like to own it.

I just read LionsLord's topic and this car seems to maybe have the same problem.

Not a clue but I'd be really curious about what your friend says. The mileage may be just enough
that the price of the car could be the smallest of your problems. I hope not.

It does sound like an engine mount.

This is a safety item and the dealer is legally obligated to fix it.

The car sounds like quite a good deal if you can get them to fix the mount.

I will be sure to let you know as soon as I find out. They were checking the motor mounts and they said it looked fine. They would rev the engine and everything too. I was thinking it might be the transmission or the transfer case since that is where the sound and movement is coming from.

A loose motor mount might seem like a small problem compared to my other cars problems. Then again, I am not very knowlegdeable about cars. My buick is leaking oil and transmission fluid. The driver side window doesnt work. Wipers work 90% of the time and half of the settings dont work. I think I am leaking fuel, again. The water pump is starting to go out. I dont know much about cars, but even if it was just a loose motor mount, it might seem better than what I am driving now.

The guys says he drives it everyday and never noticed the problem. Then again, to get that sound, you really have to gun it really quick.

The dealer is driving it everyday or the person who owned it was? Just curious. It does sound like a decent deal so good luck with it.

The guy at the dealership drives it everyday. Going there today to check it out and talk to him. I am hoping my bank will approve me for the loan.

I have to agree, that is a pretty awesome deal on the corolla...the car is great and known for lasting a long time, but I would not buy until you definately find out what the problem is.

The problem was a motor mount, just like my dad and you guys said it was. The only problem is that my bank won't approve me for the loan to buy it. Guess being 19 with no credit really sucks.

****, I'm sorry to hear that because it was a good deal. You'll find another one and get it all sorted.
I hate days like that.
