Hi guys, I'm a new member who has a new Hi ace 280SWB 2.5TD 120 BHP and it is chewing a lot of juice. It has only 1,000 miles on the clock and returns 6.5lts per Km. Ouch!! I am hoping the engine is tight and as it loosens so things will improve but have to say although I love the van I'm not keen on the MPG. Any thoughts out there

Do you really run your toyota on cooking oil and diesel? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/460.gif)

Is that virgin oil or used oil you use in your van?

I think 6,5 means 6,5 litres per 100km 6,5l/100km

I'm not aware of new Hiace's average consumption but that's pretty good compared the size of the vehicle.
I've managed to get with old 4wd one average of 8,5l/100km.

Hi all,

Two things.

First, the issue of the thirsty hiace has been addressed in a couple of other posts, so if you don't get satisfactory answers here, do some looking around other posts in this forum. There is some helpful info on this forum.

Second, I reckon 6.5 probably means 6.5km/L, which would be about 15.4L/100km, which is pretty bad. If it were 6.5L/100km, it would be cause for bragging, not complaining. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Oh... that makes sense. I was too blind to the units.
Never faced in those reversed ones with SI-units.

Hey Rns - It is totally confusing... km/L actually makes more sense than L/100km b/c it would be more in keeping with mi/gal... It makes for many confusing conversations here in Canada between older (imperial) folks and younger (metric) folks.

Carpetfitter - just trying to clarify the discussion and point this fellow to some useful info... sorry if seemed a little abrupt.
