Got "Leafy" 04/02/01 and have been averaging around 33.2 mpg. But, I drive two miles to work and run the ac constantly here in this hellish TX heat. I fill up about once a month or less. When I first got her, Leafy was averaging a little less than 25 mpg in the first five minutes; now am averaging a little more than 25 mpg. Most of my trips are short and around town. No problems except I couldn't switch to the radio screen and the whole system had to be replaced soon after I got it. The ac works great- blows cool by the time I get out of the parking lot at work. Great on the hills when we visit my mother in AR. And JUST CUTE AS A BUTTON!

My Prius now has 1000 miles on it and I averaged 49.7 MPG with the A/C running all the time. I recently reset my gas mileage computer and averaged 55.5 MPG on the trip to and from work today! It hasn't been a real hot summer here in Atlanta but I can tell you this, if I was getting the mileage you were getting, I would talk to someone at Toyota. The EPA numbers are 45,52. Your numbers are extremely low. I cannot imagine why. Good Luck!

The mileage a Prius gets seems very dependent on the lengths of trips taken. Lots of short trips = low mileage. When I commuted with the Prius from South San Jose to Fremont I got 47/48 mpg. This is stop and go driving with a few 80mph bursts (and that's staying out of the fast lane). My wife gets 36 mpg when short hopping kids to school, etc. (yes, it's her car and she loves it). This has to be compared to getting 18 mpg in a 4 cyl Pontiac Grand Am in the same driving for her, 24 on my commute. The Prius' interior is larger than the Grand Am's, and its gets twice the gas mileage. Not a bad deal! Not only that, but we feel we are doing our share to curb pollution on a "spare the air day" by going for a drive in the Prius!
Harald

I have 9700 miles and a lifetime average of 51.5 MPG in Atlanta traffic. I almost never run the AC...opting instead to open the sunroof which provides excellent air-flow. On my current tank of gas, I am averaging 57 MPG in a combination of city and highway driving. Gotta love it!

Where did you get the sunroof? I didn't think it was an option.
Kinau@...

Hi,

I concur with Harald regarding varying mileage results. After 5700 miles here in Southern California (live 30 mi north of LA) doing mostly short trips and a few highway stints, I've averaged 43mpg in town with NO A/C, 39mpg in town with A/C and 50mpg on freeway only with A/C. The car has never reached it's advertised mileage from Toyota, but I drive it hard and it HAS performed flawlessly.

-Michael
CA "Prius"

The sunroof was installed by Automotive Concepts in Tucker, GA. It's great...in fact, my father drove his Prius up from Florida to get one installed in his as well. Kinda makes the car feel like a Citreon 2CV.... This should be standard on the Prius!
