I have a Corolla CE plus 2002 with 100KM on it. Is it the time for replacing the timing belt? What would be the sympton if the timing belt is too old?

Appreciated if any one can give me a highligh.

Casper

I don't believe there are any symptoms. The only one I can think of is when it snaps on you while your on the highway. The timing belt should get changed out at every 90K miles

Yup, what he said. The belt won't give symptoms, other than breaking. I believe the dealers can check for internal frequencies that relate to the belt and know if it's going, but if you are past the 90k mark, I would have it changed.

I had a timing belt go on me this past winter, and there was no warning at all. Going up a very steep, curved road and blam ...it went. Worst possible place to be stalled and I had three dogs in the car. Thank God for nice people who helped me.

You're absolutely right.

It was actually very hazardous where it happened. A narrow, hilly road where there was no place to pull over properly and where other traffic couldn't see me until they were on top of me. Whew.

actually when I was fixing my valves in the head of my car I saw some cracks and I told a mechanic about the cracks and he suggested for me to change it out plus when you buy a timing belt it gives you warnings of your belt wearing out :D so there are definatly symptoms check for the round curve on the belt that fits onto your cam sprocket and check for cracks on the timing belt :D

That's assuming one knows how to do that! I don't so I have to rely on a mechanic! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/s10.gif)
