Hi all!

I'm new here next week I am picking up a 1996 Toyota tacoma Extra cab 2wd with one of the 4 bangers.

My question is whether these engines have a timing belt or a timing chain? It has 130,000 miles on it so if it does have a timing belt I will plan to replace it.

Thanks.

Just replaced mine on my '89 3.0 and yes it was somewhat a major pain but between me my brother it looked easy. The belt alone is only about 35 bucks (more if factory toyota belt). I've seen shop ads adverting belt swaps starting from 119.00 but for a 4 cyl. V-6 of course add problably another hundred, yet you'll get some type warranty for the work. If you got the book, time, tools, and a little know how...go for it yourself and save $$$.
