Let's hear your experiences. I'm thinking about new tires for my 4-runner. What do you recommend? More importantly, what do you *not* recommend?

The Hancooks are excellent stock tires. Good all year round.

I switch to studded-winter-tires by November. Lots of ice and snow up here...and -40.

Again, it will depend on your driving conditions. Every major tire manufacturer makes a decent all-season. Therefore, in all honesty, I go to Wal-Mart and get the cheapest ones. Never Ever had a problem and up here in Canada we are Hard on Tires.

Pongo..I am in Canada too..and I was told different stories from different people who own Toyotas..some say all seasons tires are ok others say they are not worth it when there is a lot of ice. I was told when I bought my car that Michelin tires were the best..esp. since I live in a hilly area when it goes to -40..which is not that often since the weather is changing here. Pretty soon, we won’t need winter tires at all!

I had very good results with the Toyo Open Country AT's on my old F-150 Supercrew (well - not so good on soft sand!). They were still in great shape after 65,000 miles when I traded the truck.

If ever I were to get a truck I'd look at them again for tires.

Wow, I don't think I ever had tires in workable condition at 65,000 miles...looks like a winner to me!
