Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.

So far, 407 Camrys have been enrolled to participate in this research. A good start, but many more are needed.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results for free.

422 Camry owners so far. Still need more, especially 2008s.

Those results were posted. Only one model year was included in this set for the 1G-5G, the 2002. It has a better than average repair rate.

The next update should include additional model years. More participants would certainly help.

The last month of data collection before the May update is about to begin. A few additional participants could make the difference between having a result for a model year, and no result for that year.

Those results soon.

If you've signed up to participate but haven't yet responded to the survey (via a link in the email you received), please do. And if you haven't signed up yet, I hope you'll consider doing so.

Those results recently posted.

Except for the 2007 V6, which has improved to average, the Camry has a better than average repair rate.

I'd like to report on more model years. Need owners' help to make this happen.

Next update in August.

Additional participants always helpful -- many years are close to the minimum sample size.

A few additional participants could still make the difference between having a result, and not having one.

Updated results recently posted.

The fourth- and fifth-generation Camrys continue to require few repairs. Even the 2000s which have an average of 112,800 miles on them have a reported repair rate of 64 successful repair trips per 100 cars per year--well under one per car. Newer years appear to be under 50 per hundred, maybe well under.

The sixth-gen cars haven't all been fairing quite as well, though the 2007 V6 has improved to about average--but that's a different forum.

Nearly all of these results are asterisked for marginal sample sizes, and are only visible to members on the site. With more participants, we could have more precise results.
