Hi evryone,

I have just bought a 1998 toyota hiace 2.8 diesel.

I was driving it on the motorway for the first time, It was fine when i was doing about 60mph, on a reasonably flat road. But then I pressed the accelerator down a bit to try and speed up, and it just revved loads, as if it was trying to change gear or something, even though there isnt a higher gear! It seems that when I am around that kind of speed, depending on if Im going up or down hill, I have to be very careful when accelerating atall, or it will just rev a huge amount and not accelerate!!

Im not sure if this is nromal or not, ive never driven an automatic camper before, just wondering if I need to adjust my driving style, or take it back to the dealer, and get them to sort it out!!

Any replies would be hugely appreciated, thanykyou

Alex

p.s what kind of topo speed would you expect to get out of one of these vans on the flat motorway....70...80mph? :)

Hi Alex,

Have you driven an automatic before? Do you know about 'kick-down' ?

I will presume that you do, so my thoughts are that either the kick-down cable is not
adjusted properly (the gearbox is trying to change to a lower gear prematurely), or
the transmission is slipping.

In any either case you will have to return it to the agent for them to check.
