Striker,

Can you provide some informations on the conditions.

Is this a noise that is only present when braking ? Does it occur at only low speeds ? Any speed ?

If low speed, have someone walk beside the vehicle and determine if its occuring on both sides. If you have jack-stands, you can determine this once the wheels are off the ground.

Did this start after you hit a deep pot-hole ?

Any further info would help.

Thanks for your reply!....well i will try and give more info, here goes, The noise seems to disapear once iam past 40 mph, from 40mph its a faint continueous squeek. Then when i take my foot from the gas pedal and slow down it gets louder, i hung my head out the window lol!...as i was slowing down from 40 to 10mph and the noise i think is on both sides the drivers side being loudest.
It goes something like this squeek,squeek......squeek,squeek,......and so on as i slow right down sort of the pattern of my wheels going around.
, but a continueous sqeek when i'm going between 30-40mph. When i put the break on the noise goes. My wheels dont seem to wobble form top to bottom,(checked for the wheel bearings)...i just think this is silly as its a 4wd!
Could it be my handbrake thats slightly on or something....
Hope thats enough info for you, i will try and think if there is anything else......
Thanks

Almost sounds like you have a loose brake caliper.

Can you jack up the driver's side and remove the tire ? Yank on the caliper and see. Check your pad wear as well (both sides of the roter eh).

Hi there had both wheels off, drivers side seemed ok just a bit of metal catching the wheel, now the passenger side, when i turned the wheel backwards sounded like sharp claws running down a black board ! sheering...when i turned the wheel forwards the famous squeeking noise seemed to be coming from my brakes which have about 2mil on them. The surface of the brake pads seemed a bit rusty colured..it looked like rust actually.
This means it could be a new set of brakes?...and thats what could be causing the sqeeky wheel noise?

2 millimeters is not very much. Suggest you replace your pads.

You may actually have a "wear-indicator" deliberately scraping your rotor. Some pads are engineered this way so that it produces an audible squeel so the owner knows when to change pads.

Pads are cheap, and you can replace yourself. But I would suggest you purchase a Haynes or Chilton manual for the vehicle unless you've done this before.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Thanks Pongo mate will sort new ones out and see what happens.....the squeek is only on the passengers side now so i think the passenger side pad was in worse nic that drivers side...cheers dude...your a clever man.

As Pongo said, most likely the squeal tabs on your brake pads have touched the disk, replace your pads and all will be sweet!! For a road going Surf I would do the wheel nuts no tighter than 80 ftlb tension. I have had past experience with rally cars and 80 ftlb is about the optimum tension for wheel nuts otherwise you stand a chance of losing a wheel ( very unhappy!!)..
Don't let your pads go to metal (friction material wear out) coz that gets real expensive!!!
