Purchased 1993 Toyota Tercel 4cyl. On occasion Car will stall and not start. Engine turns normal.
Battery and plugs changed. Wires, dist. cap and rotor are all ok. Is there a defect with this car that I should
know about? Last night while pulling out ot the driveway, the car stalled and would not start. All systems showed everything was fine. What did I overlook?

It may be your fuel pump. I had this problem with another car. When stopped are started to stop, the car died. Call your local Toyota dealer and explain and as what the cheapest things to check are first. The fuel pump is generally on of the most expensive.

Maybe there's a wiring problem and when you turn the wheel, it makes contact, and you can start it. Just a thought. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

My husband laughed at my answer above. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif) He said that it is possible, but also wondered if it isn't just the way it is made. Like our Corolla, you had to turn the steering wheel before the key would turn. Does your key turn at all? Does it try to start?

What about the ignition control modulator switch, or something to that effect! I can't remember the proper name for the part. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/s10.gif)

I have a 1993 Starlet with the 2E engine and it have a little plug or terminal on the starting device that some times disconnects by itself with the vibration and then the car does not start. Two months ago I repaired it with a pair of pliers and a new terminal which costed about $0.50USD
